Te Tai O Poutini is a place that is very special to me. I whakapapa back to both hapū there, it was only a 3-hour drive from Christchurch so we would go for weekend trips to see the whānau and it is truly an incredible place. I wanted to highlight two contrasting aspects of the West Coast that I both love. The wildlife/scenery and the stormy weather. The piece starts at the start of a new day in the West Coast. The sun is shining and the wildlife are starting to wake up for the day. Then suddenly, clouds start forming, rain starts forming and before long there is thunder. Te Tai O Poutini is famous for having high rainfall due to orographic rainfall. It was always so stormy and windy. It was always something that fascinated me. How so much rain could fall in one area. As the storm calms down in this piece, we can start to hear the wildlife again as the sun begins to set.
