"Of Sorrows" is the Winner of the 2025 Finlayson Prize which was generously supported by Hon. Christopher Finlayson.

Shostakovich's life story is one that always breaks my heart. I first discovered his work in high school when I studied his 5th symphony and since then I have been so fascinated by his work, even once composing an orchestral march in his style. This piece is not only a reflection on his final viola sonata, but also a reflection on a life such a brilliant composer led. The tension and sorrows.
